Sony enjoys its most successful Black Friday sales to date

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) chief Andrew House has confirmed that the 2015 Black Friday sales were the most successful in the electronic giant’s history.

Speaking to the Financial Times, House commented, "We’ve just seen the most successful Black Friday in the company’s history. We are now trying to benchmark against the success of the PlayStation 2—or exceed it if possible."

Despite this, House was "hesitant to predict" if the company’s flagship console would outsell the PS2, in part because "the cadence at which people expect innovation" is faster.

It was previously reported that the PS4 managed to outsell the Xbox One in the U.K. during Black Friday, although it was a close call between both consoles. In addition, sales of software in the country also benefited from a massive spike during the same period, including The Nathan Drake Collection on PS4, which saw sales rise by a massive 999 percent. Over in the U.S., the PS4 was the best-selling console during Black Friday for the retail giant Best Buy. Sony recently announced that the console has sold a massive 30.2 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2013.

The PS4 is selling comfortably ahead of its lead rival, the Xbox One, and Microsoft has even admitted that it may not be able to catch up with Sony’s system going forward. In addition, analyst Michael Pachter reckons there is ‘nothing’ that Xbox One can do to close the gap on the PS4. It’s still early days yet in the current console war however, as both systems are surely to be on the market for at least a decade.

Sony recently hosted its annual PlayStation Experience press conference over the weekend, where it announced a series of new games and debuted new footage of the hotly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4.
