Square Enix released a slick new Final Fantasy trailer featuring gameplay at a military base of the enemy nation Niflheim.
The video showcases two play styles for the mission: stealth and explosive all-out brawl.
The stealth approach has protagonist Noctis taking cover behind objects and in the shadows, along with using his warp kill attack to quickly and silently take out enemies.
Next, the action method uses frenetic combat against the rush of enemy soldiers. In overwhelming moments, our heroes can pull off tag-team attacks like the X-Strike. For massive firepower, Noctis can hop onto a massive turret to mow down the opposition.
There’s a real Metal Gear Solid-vibe to the Niflheim Base mission. A red streak stealth meter at the top of the screen appears right before Noctis is spotted. If enemies are alerted to your presence, fast-paced music starts playing. Heck, there are even bipedal mechs!
The new character shown at the end is Aranea Highwind, commander of the Niflheim’s Third Army Corps 87th Airborne Division. She is described as a “skilled aerial combatant known as ‘Dragoon’ within the Imperial military.”
Fans who have followed the game since it was known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII may find Ms. Highwind’s face resembles one from the past.
Final Fantasy XV is set to release worldwide in 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The launch date, price, and other details will be unveiled at the Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV event at the end of March.
