Silent Hills was turned down by Cliff Bleszinski as he thought he’d ‘f*** it up’

Former Epic Games developer Cliff Bleszinski has revealed that he was offered a chance to work on Silent Hills by Hideo Kojima.

Speaking on his personal Twitter account (via Game Watcher), Bleszinski, who is perhaps best known for his work on the Gears of War franchise, said that while he was flattered to have been asked to join the project, he turned it down for two reasons.

First of all, he wasn’t keen on working in Los Angeles (Kojima Productions expanded to a L.A. branch last year) as he’s not a fan of the City of Angels, and secondly, claimed he would have most likely ‘f***ed’ it up had he joined the project. The designer later added that he’s a big fan of new IP.

Silent Hills was a collaborative project between Kojima-san and Hollywood director Guillermo del Toro. Conceived as a reboot to Konami’s long-running psychological horror series, the project was to feature The Walking Dead’s Norma Reedus as a central character, though not much else was known about the game before Konami canceled it last spring

Sony announced Silent Hills during its Gamescom 2014 press conference, and released the demo Playable Teaser (P.T.) as a free download for fans to try out on PlayStation 4. Sadly, that has also gone the way of the Dodo, with Sony removing the demo from its servers making it impossible to download.

The future of the Silent Hill series currently remains up in the air, although Konami has said it will continue to develop new entries in the franchise.
