Gamestop CEO Paul Raines has seemingly let slip the PlayStation VR release date.
Though it’s been widely rumoured that Sony’s virtual reality headset would launch in Q1 2016, Raines, whose company will be one of the major retailers of PlayStation VR, told FOX Business News that Gamestop “will launch the Sony product this Fall.”
The interview was televised during a section of FOX News called ‘Mornings with Maria,’ where Raines talked about all the VR products that are coming to market later this year.
“We are right now preparing for the launches of the major VR products, so we’re in discussions with Oculus, with HTC Vive and with Sony,” he said. “Its a big launch (for VR), we’re getting ready for it, we will launch the Sony product this fall, and we are in discussions with the other two players.”

Sony Interactive Entertainment (formerly known as Sony Computer Entertainment) has yet to reveal the official release window for PlayStation VR, but with someone as prominent as the CEO of one of the major retailers of the headset volunteering the information, this has to be the strongest signal yet of Sony’s intent. A Fall release would give Sony the major platform of E3 in June to showcase its VR games, and give developers more time to streamline their VR experiences for launch.
The latest internet rumor suggests that PlayStation VR could be priced around the $299 mark, which would place Sony’s headset way below the price of its main competitor, Oculus Rift, which launches on March 28 at a rather costly $599.
