$499 PlayStation VR launch bundle announced for North America, pre-orders open March 22

Sony has unveiled a launch bundle for the US, with people having the opportunity to pre-order it on Amazon next week at 7:00AM Pacific on Tuesday, March 22nd for $499 in one of two pre-order waves (with the second wave happening sometime in the summer).

$499 PlayStation VR launch bundle contents:
– PS VR headset
– PS VR cables
– Stereo Headphones
– PlayStation VR Demo Disc
– PlayStation Camera
– 2 PlayStation Move motion controllers
– PlayStation VR Worlds (physical disc copy)

PlayStation VR Worlds includes five experience: The London Heist, Into The Deep, VR Luge, Danger Ball and Scavenger’s Odyssey. Find out more about them here.

After announcing the PlayStation VR at a decent price this week, Sony started up the pre-orders for Europe, where it sold out its first batch in mere minutes

As you might have gathered recently, while the PS VR is the least expensive VR headset, you need to throw in the cost of the Playstation 4 Camera, required to use PS VR, if you don’t already have one of course. And for some games, you’ll also need to add one or two of Sony’s previously long-forgotten Move controllers. The launch bundle is a great option for PS4 owners with none of the required accessories.

However, the launch bundle is currently the only way to pre-order PS VR in the US, with the core set not available to reserve at this time like you can in Europe. That’s quite a strange decision, especially after building such goodwill for the basic price.

There’s no word on any other retailers for North America nor if a similar bundle will come to Europe.

Do you feel this is a little unfair on loyal fans? Shouldn’t both pre-order options be available wordwide? Let us know below.
