The developer behind the Saints Row franchise has unveiled its latest IP in the shape of an open-world superhero actioner titled Agents of Mayhem.
Currently in development for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One, Agents of Mayhem is said to take place within the same universe as Saints Row, sharing storyline, symbolism and design inspiration with Volition’s outlandish action-adventure franchise.
Agents of Mayhem crafts its own unique comic book world however, with players taking control of a special agent—a member of the titular organisation, M.A.Y.H.E.M.— tasked with taking down a group of supervillains known as L.E.G.I.O.N. Expect Volition’s trademark over-the-top gameplay to feature predominantly in this latest offering.
Agents of Mayhem looks set to feature action-packed single-player
According to IGN, Agents of Mayhem will eschew any form of multiplayer in favor of a bringing players a single-player exclusive offering.
Amazon’s listing goes into even more detail, revealing the game will take place in Seoul, South Korea. Gamers will be able to pick a squad of three characters pooled from a list of 12 unique agents, and you’ll be able to switch them on the fly during gameplay for maximum mayhem. See what we did there?
If that wasn’t enough, Agents of Mayhem has been inspired by a wealth of popular culture both past and present, ranging from Saturday morning cartoons, comic books and superheroes.
Agents of Mayhem is scheduled for release in 2017.
