Developer Insomniac Games has revealed that its visually-stunning Spider-Man trailer was captured on a standard PlayStation 4, and what’s more, it was all in-engine footage.
Following the game’s debut at E3 2016 during Sony’s press conference, many observers were sceptical as to whether or not the trailer represented the same quality that players would be able to enjoy in the finished product.
Turns out, it wasn’t just a pre-rendered cutscene, but actual gameplay.
"We just showed gameplay last night," the Ratchet & Clank developer Tweeted. "Trailer was all in game."
Insomniac’s comments align with previous Tweets from Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, who said that all PS4 game demos at E3 were running on a bog-standard PS4, and not the Neo as some speculated.
Spider-Man swings onto PS4 in epic, open-world adventure
Developed by Insomniac in collaboration with Sony and Marvel, Spider-Man is a PS4-exclusive and has been confirmed as an open-world title featuring its own, unique storyline. As such, don’t expect it to be based on the upcoming Spider-Man Homecoming.
Lead character Peter Parker is said to be more seasoned in this upcoming adaptation of the popular comic book hero, and is figuring out how to balance his career and hectic lifestyle as a superhero in New York City.
"Spider-Man is one of the most iconic and well-known characters in the world, and we’re thrilled to be given the responsibility to create a brand new, authentic Spider-Man story," Insomniac Games commented following the game’s reveal on Monday evening.
Spider-Man is due out in 2017.
