Resident Evil 7 fans shouldn’t be worried about ghosts; this isn’t a supernatural game

Capcom has touched base on the perceived supernatural elements of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, assuring fans that the latest chapter in the franchise isn’t a ghost story.

Speaking on Capcom-Unity, the game’s director, Koushi Nakanishi, acknowledged that fans are under the impression that Resident Evil is going down a more supernatural path, but promised everything will make sense when they get their hands on the game.

I’ve seen from initial reactions of what we’ve put out that people are getting the impression that we’ve taken Resident Evil and turned it into some sort of supernatural, occult, ghost story," Nakanishi-san wrote.

"I think you can look at the trailer or the demo and get that impression, but don’t worry, we haven’t just thrown out Resident Evil as it exists and turned it into a ghost story. It will all make sense in the end.

"I know it’s frustrating holding back on what we can show fans, but this is really the best way to let you enjoy the game to the fullest when it finally comes out. We just have a trailer and a demo at this moment, but watch this space in the coming months and we hope you look forward to the game. We’re going to do our best to make the best game we can."

Elsewhere, Resident Evil 7’s producer, Masachika Kawata confirmed that Quick-Time Events won’t be returning. “I know there are a lot of people will be relieved to hear that,” he said.

Resident Evil 7 brings back survival horror, hitting PS4 in early 2017

Resident Evil 7 is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on January 24, 2017. The game will also be fully playable in PlayStation VR from start to finish.

The game takes place from a first-person perspective—a first for a mainline Resident Evil title—and attempts to recapture the franchise’s survival horror trappings of old by eschewing the more action-oriented elements of Resident Evil 4 and 5.

Resident Evil 7 takes place following the events of its 2012 predecessor, and is set on a sprawling Plantation estate somewhere in rural America. Capcom has said that the main character will be someone new to the series and not your archetypal action hero.

The playable demo, Beginning Hour, is now available to download on the PlayStation Store. Be sure to read our guide to finding all the endings (at least, the ones we’ve found so far) as well as eight highlights you need to check out.
