Resident Evil 7’s mysterious dummy finger may actually have a purpose

Capcom has indicated that the mysterious dummy finger item in Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour may have a use.

The object has baffled gamers since the demo’s release during E3 week, with players attempting find a use for it all over the farmhouse setting to no avail. Upon inspection, it looks like a key of some sort (examining the object and turning it around reveals the indentation of a key) but there’s nowhere to use it.

Or is there?

Capcom acknowledged fans’ efforts in attempting to crack the case of the dummy finger with the below image. As you can see, it seems to hint that a solution will present itself soon enough, perhaps in the form of additional content for the demo.

Resident Evil 7 set to bring back horror on PS4 in early 2017

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was announced during Sony’s E3 2016 press conference, where the company confirmed a release date of January 24, 2017. In addition, gamers will also be able to play the upcoming survival horror title from start to finish with PlayStation VR.

Set after the events of its predecessor, Resident Evil 7 takes place on a creepy plantation somewhere in rural America, and features an all-new protagonist. In a first for a mainline series entry, the game also takes place from a first-person perspective; something which Capcom felt was necessary in order to bring the series back to its horror roots.

Despite the supernatural undertones of the Beginning Hour demo, Capcom has stated emphatically that Resident Evil 7 is not a ghost story, and that all will become clear once you play the final game.

If you haven’t already done so, be sure to give the demo a look and read up on our guide on how to unlock all the known endings so far. When you’re done, be sure to check out our feature on all the highlights you should soak up in Beginning Hour.
