Tekken 7’s game designer has said that any possibility of cross-play between PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One users is firmly in the hands of Sony.
Speaking on Twitter in response to a fan question on the subject, Michael Murray explained that Microsoft has already made its stance on cross-play clear.
“Please ask Sony. MS already publicly said they’re interested in cross platform,” said Murray.
Sony isn’t against cross-play as such; it’s opened the floodgates to PC owners in the past with the likes of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Street Fighter V. However, it’s not extended its hand to Xbox One users as of yet.
As such, anyone waiting for Tekken 7 cross-play should probably give Sony a bell as Murray suggests, eh?
Tekken 7 release date confirmed for early 2017
Tekken 7 is scheduled for release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One in early 2017, though an exact launch day has yet to be confirmed.
The latest instalment in the venerable fighting game series will focus on the long-running Mishima family feud, which looks set to come to an end as Heihachi and Kazuya go head-to-head in a mighty scrap.
Over on the gameplay front, Tekken injects a number of fresh mechanics into the mix, including the Tail Spin, which sends your opponent flying while giving you a brief window of opportunity to extend your air combo. It also introduces powerful Rage Arts and a heap of new characters alongside long-time favorites.
