Sony is reportedly cancelling pre-orders for the digital version of Gran Turismo Sport following the announcement of the game’s delay a few weeks back.

That’s according to TeamVVV, which claims that Sony has contacted customers who pre-ordered the game via the PlayStation Store with the following message:
“On 30th August 2016 we regrettably announced that the release of Gran Turismo Sport has been delayed until 2017. We do not have a new release date at this time. We have, therefore, decided to cancel your pre-order and refund your pre-order payment.
“Once we have a new release date for Gran Turismo Sport we will offer a revised pre-order for it on the PlayStation Store at the earliest opportunity. Thank you for your custom and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
Gran Turismo Sport was originally scheduled to ship in mid-November exclusively for the PlayStation 4. Developer Polyphony Digital even scrapped plans for a beta in order to ensure the game made its 2016 launch, although that hasn’t stopped the game from slipping into next year.
The most recent entry in the series, Gran Turismo 6, was released for the PS3 back in November 2013. Prior to that, Gran Turismo 5 turned up in late 2010 following a particularly arduous development cycle, although gamers were at least able to enjoy a taster in the shape of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
Sony announced earlier this year summer that the Gran Turismo franchise has sold over 76 million units since its inception in December 1997 on the PlayStation.
