Sony has announced on the PlayStation Blog that Gran Turismo Sport has been delayed, confirming the hotly anticipated racer will no longer hit shelves on its planned launch of November 16, 2016.
Gran Turismo Sport release date pushed back, 2017 launch is on the cards
Unfortunately, the console maker didn’t confirm exactly when Polyphony Digital’s latest title would arrive on shelves, other than it will arrive next year. It did reveal, however, that GT Sport would be showcased at various gaming events in the run up until release.
“From the start, the title has been one of our most ambitious undertakings, using the latest technologies, such as physics-based rendering and sound simulations, and Scapes photo mode. In combining these features with a new Sport mode, we are offering a competitive gaming experience to truly reinvent what it means to be a racing game. We’ve been excited and humbled by the response each time we’ve shared new gameplay with everyone,” said Sony.
“However, as we approach our planned release date in November, we realise we need more time to perfect GT Sport, to which we’ve already dedicated so much effort to since announcing the title, and do not want to compromise the experience. While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time, we are more committed than ever to making GT Sport the best Gran Turismo game to date.”
Gran Turismo Sport will be released exclusively for PlayStation 4 and will also take advantage of Sony’s upcoming PlayStation VR headset. While not a numbered entry in the venerable racing simulator series, creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said that it has all the hallmarks of a full-fledged entry.
Gran Turismo debuted on the PlayStation in Japan back in December 1997. The series has sold over 75 million copies to date worldwide.
