Resident Evil 7 gets massive info dump; game length, new enemies, and more revealed

Resident Evil 7: biohazard has received a massive info landside following a series of new previews that have hit the web overnight.

The latest batch of info comes courtesy of a Spanish gaming magazine, Hobby Consolas, which was translated by the kind chaps at NeoGAF. Chief among the new details include the fact Resident Evil 7 will last around 14-16 hours in terms of game length, with the preview build that the publication played taking around four hours. The surname for the main protagonist and his missing wife, Ethan and Mia, respectively, has been confirmed as Winters.

The magazine confirms that the start of the game takes place in and around the Baker plantation, and that Resident Evil 7 surprisingly feels more old-school than you may initially think, with numerous moments that will make fans come over all nostalgic. There’s also plenty of creepy crawlies dotted throughout the game, and one sequence involves a group of bugs and your trusty survival knife. We’ve also seen evidence of these creatures blocking doorways.

In another nod to Resident Evil’s past, the game will feature special keys that are shaped like various animals, which must be located in order to unlock new areas. There’s also references to virtually every mainline Resident Evil title to date, although the magazine isn’t going into spoiler territory in that respect. However, the magazine says that they may surprise gamers with how clever they are, and went on to describe some of them as ‘glorious.’

Finally, the saving function is manual while playing on the Normal difficulty setting, although for boss fights Resident Evil 7 also features an auto-save feature. However, while playing on the Madhouse difficulty, you’ll only be able to save at tape decks if you have a cassette. In terms of enemies, the Bakers will stalk players throughout the plantation as we’ve seen before, but there’s a new type of enemy known as The Molded, which were previously seen in the ‘Shadow’ teaser video.
