Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 7: biohazard has sold 2.5 million copies worldwide following its launch on Tuesday for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.

Resident Evil 7 demo downloaded by 7 million

Meanwhile, the demo for the critically acclaimed survival horror game, which was released on PS4 following Resi 7’s E3 debut, has been downloaded over seven million times. Players can unlock an item in Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour to use in the main game, so make sure you give the demo some love before moving onto the full game.

Sales surpass 2.5 million

With the new RE ENGINE, a proprietary game engine developed in-house for this title, Capcom has pushed hardware specifications to their limits,” said the company. “As a result, the title garnered attention worldwide, with the demo version exceeding 7.15 million downloads — a record for the series — and the game selling more than 2.5 million units.”

Resident Evil 7 takes place four years after the globetrotting, action-packed events of Resi 6, and sees newcomer Ethan Winters travelling to a spooky plantation in Louisiana, USA, to search for his missing wife Mia. Once there however, he finds himself stalked by the seemingly immortal Baker family, and must survive to uncover the secrets of the estate and get to the bottom of the whole affair.
