Capcom has announced it is marking the fifth anniversary of Dragon’s Dogma by bringing the game to PS4 and Xbox One in 2017.
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be hitting Sony and Microsoft’s this fall in Japan and western territories, and marks the latest re-release from Capcom following its current-generation remasters of the Resident Evil series last year.
Originally released in 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Dragon’s Dogma takes the form of a fantasy-inspired RPG featuring an expansive open-world to explore packed with NPCs, with may commenting on its similarity to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Players takes on the role of one of many different classes, including Fighter, Strider, Mage, Warrior, Mystic Knight, Ranger, Assassin, Sorcerer, and Magic Archer, with the game’s ‘pawn’ system being a standout mechanic. This allows gamers to be accompanied by three party members, each one controlled by the AI, with players able to issue rudimentary commands to them when needing a helping hand.

Outside of the main quest line, Dragon’s Dogma offers a number of side quests to take part in, expanding the game’s replay value and offering over 70 hours of play time when you factor in the primary campaign. Combat, meanwhile, takes inspiration from the likes of Dark Souls and Devil May Cry, channelling a hack-’n-slash vibe when it come to melee attacks, although there’s a wide range of play styles depending upon your chosen class.
Dragon’s Dogma was re-released in 2013 under the Dark Arisen moniker, which includes all available DLC release for the game plus a number of additional features, such as new weapons and armor, a fast-travel system, and a whole new area to explore. It’s this version of the game that PS4 players will be able to snap up when the title hits Sony’s flagship console later this year.
