Marvel vs Capcom Infinite DLC character rumors are almost as prominent a discussion as the quality of the character models themselves, and in a fascinating interview with gamesindustry.biz, Marvel Games’ Jay Ong shed some light on what we can expect for the future of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite and its roster. The biggest takeaway being that we could feasibly get years of roster updates to the fighter, as a ‘games as service’ model looks to be in place.
First up though, Ong was pressed on the big talking point among the fanbase since the initial roster leaks, namely the absence of X-Men and Fantastic Four characters. Unfortunately, his answers were as vague as can be.
Marvel vs Capcom Infinite roster leaked
”It’s something I really can’t comment on right now," Ong said. "We haven’t officially released the roster. Let’s just say we think our fans will be pleased with what’s being announced’’. Hardly promising, but it does at least lead into the talk of how DLC roster additions will be handled.
‘’we talked about earlier with games-as-a-service, we certainly expect Marvel vs. Capcom to be that. There’s going to be content released over time. We’re not seeing this as a one-off that ships this fall; it’s a service that goes on for years. Therefore, if you look at it, content and new characters are going to be dropped over time, and I think fans will be happy with what’s going to be dropped, not just in September but going on from there."
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom PS4 Review
So what can we glean from this? Well, this business model will feed the game’s coffers for a good while after initial release (at least that’s the plan, barring a Street Fighter V fiasco), but importantly, it increases the likelihood of X-Men and Fantastic Four characters joining the roster at some point, especially if the sticking point to their inclusion has something to do with the various license wrangles Marvel find themselves with those characters.
Meanwhile, on the Capcom side of things, the chances of being able to play as a Velociraptor from Dino Crisis just went up massively.
