Guerrilla Games has today rolled out Horizon Zero Dawn update 1.30 for users to download, as the Amsterdam-based developer continues to incrementally improve the performance of its acclaimed PS4-exclusive title.
Chief among the additions with this latest update include a number of progression issues fixes, plus the New Game+ mode that many users have been eager to get their hands on. This allows you to play through the game again without losing your character progress and inventory from a previous save, and includes two new Trophies (but don’t worry, they don’t count towards your Platinum.)
If that wasn’t enough, Guerrilla is also rolling out a new difficulty in the shape of Ultra Hard mode, which enhances the sense of your mechanical adversaries, as well as limiting health regeneration and other tweaks. If you decide to give this a try, then you had better make sure you are willing to go through with it; you won’t be able to turn Ultra Hard off once you begin.
Horizon Zero Dawn was released on the PS4 in the U.S. in February and in the U.K. in March, and quickly cemented itself as one of the most successful single-format releases of the year to date, second only to Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy. Sony announced early last month that the game had sold over 3.4 million copies worldwide, and at E3 2017 confirmed that an expansion is currently in the works.
While Horizon Zero Dawn 2 has not been officially announced, the original game’s success is very likely to spur Guerrilla into action to create the next blockbuster PlayStation-exclusive franchise. We already know that ideas for a follow-up are being thrown around at Guerrilla HQ, and there’s every reason Aloy could potentially become the next major icon for Sony’s gaming business.
