Destiny 2 PS4 Pro boost fails to hit native 4K in beta

The Destiny 2 beta on PlayStation 4 Pro achieves a 4K resolution of 2160p by utilising checkerboard rendering, pixel wizards Digital Foundry have reported. In addition, the horizontal access employs dynamic resolution that ranges from 3072p to 3840p.

When playing on a regular PS4 however, Bungie’s latest first-person shooter clocks in at full 1080p much like its predecessor, and also utilise volumetric lighting and screen space reflections, which received much praise from Digital Foundry’s report. In terms of frame rate however, Destiny 2 is firmly locked at 30fps on both systems, although the performance is much smoother on PS4 Pro.

The Destiny 2 beta is currently open for early access PS4 and Xbox One customers, with the PC teaser rolling out next month. The open beta will kick off later this week for all players, and includes a look at the first mission in the game, Homecoming, as well as two Crucible matches and the Inverted Spire Strike.

Destiny 2 is scheduled for release on PS4 and Xbox One on September 6, 2017, with the PC version arriving in October. The game opens as a Cabal-lead unit known as The Red Legion launches a devastating attack on the Tower, resulting in the Guardians and their Vanguards being scattered and players losing all their hard-earned loot and gear in the process.
