Is Bethesda gearing up for Elder Scrolls 6 release?

Bethesda parent company ZeniMax has posted a new job opening on its careers page, which may indicate the studio is quietly working on the much-requested Elder Scrolls 6 release.

Specifically, the industry juggernaut is looking for a tools engineer to facilitate the creation of “a AAA development environment,” which would definitely fit the same criteria as The Elder Scrolls franchise, seeing as how it’s one of the most successful IPs under ZeniMax’s illustrious belt.

The job description reads:

Bethesda Game Studios Montreal is seeking a qualified Build/Tools Engineer for our team. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and experience in the design, implementation and continuing support of cross platform build systems, continuous integration build systems, automated testing, automated performance measurement and trending, profiling tools, patching systems, asset dependency and packaging systems, multiple branched environments, and source control integration. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work on game code/systems to support our initiatives to create a AAA development environment.”

While this listing isn’t alone proof enough that the job pertains to a new Elder Scrolls title, it definitely indicates that Bethesda is looking to staff up for a major game and an interesting tidbit nonetheless.

Bethesda has touched on The Elder Scrolls 6 multiple times within the past year or so, insisting the project is not currently in development. However, this does not mean that the fantasy-RPG sequel isn’t in the pre-production stage, which typically precedes full development by at least a few years.

A recent online rumor that circulated prior to E3 suggested that The Elder Scrolls 6 will take place in Akavir and will launch in 2023. However, this same report said that Bethesda’s new project, Starfield, would be unveiled at E3 this year, which obviously didn’t happen.

Speaking after E3 this year however, the Maryland-based studio confirmed that it has two new games in development before it gets around to making Elder Scrolls 6. In other words, we definitely won’t be seeing the game for a while.
