FIFA 18 Squad Battles offer alternative to FUT Champions grinding

EA Sports has announced FIFA 18 Squad Battles as a new game mode for its annual footie franchise.

Squad Battles are a single-player, competitive-based mode that lets players square off against predetermined AI squads, which has been greatly enhanced for FIFA 18. They won’t always be your run-of-the-mill opponents either; some are cobbled together by real-life footballers or community heavyweights.

The mode shares some similarities with FUT Champions, in the sense that each victory will give you points that rank you in a rewards tier. The higher the difficulty, the more points you can accumulate in Squad Battles, as well as the skill and chemistry level of your opponent.

Indeed, Squad Battles should also appeal to those who typically do not indulge in FIFA’s single-player campaign, with the AI having been significantly bump up to allow for a much more dynamic experience. In other words, it’ll feel a lot closer to fighting against an actual human opponent.

FIFA 18 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One on September 29, 2017. As with FIFA 17, this latest entry in the venerable sports franchise will feature a full-fledged story campaign known as The Journey: Hunter Returns, which continues the story of Alex Hunter, a London-based aspiring footballer competing for fame and glory.
