UK Charts: Assassin’s Creed Origins beats Super Mario Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Origins has debuted at the top of the U.K. All Format Chart following its release on Friday.

Physical sales of the stealth-action title, which is the first major entry in the series since 2015, were roughly equal to that of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. However, the rise in digital sales will have likely pushed it beyond its predecessor in terms of overall commercial performance.

It’s worth noting however that Syndicate was the lowest-selling instalment in the historical action-adventure franchise outside of Assassin’s Creed Rogue. As such, the fact Origins has only matched its sales means the game is unlikely to reinvigorate the series’ commercial prospects.

Origins was up against some stiff competition mind, including the Nintendo Switch-exclusive Super Mario Odyssey and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, which debut in second and fourth place, respectively.

Unfortunately, Wolfenstein 2’s launch sales were down by more than half of what its predecessor managed to achieve. Mario Odyssey on the other hand, gave Switch its biggest launch to date and is Nintendo’s sixth biggest launch of all time in the U.K.
