U.K. Charts: Call of Duty WW2 is series’ best launch in 3 years

Call of Duty WW2 has debuted at number one on the U.K. All Format Chart following its launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One last Friday.

Launch sales of the first-person shooter were up an impressive 57 percent on last year’s Call of Duty Infinite Warfare.

Not only that, but Call of Duty WW2 has given the franchise its biggest launch in three years, beating out the hugely popular Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 in the process.

Infinite Warfare was something of a low point for the multi-million selling franchise, with sales down 48 percent over Black Ops 3.

In addition, critics were not as impressed with the series’ transition to all-out space warfare, which is likely why we find ourselves back where it all began in 2003 — World War II.

The move seems to have worked too, as Call of Duty WW2 reviews have been pretty positive so far. However, the game has attracted criticism for its poorly-implemented loot drop system.

Call of Duty WW2 is the first instalment to take place during the Second World War since 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War. The game’s campaign focuses on the efforts of the U.S. 1st Infantry Division, as they steadily push back the Nazis through war-torn Europe.

Elsewhere on the charts, Assassin’s Creed Origins drops to second place, while FIFA 18 sticks at three and Super Mario Odyssey moves to fourth place. Destiny 2 finds itself booted out of the Top 10 for the first time since its launch in early September.
