Gaming is made to be an all-inclusive hobby, but that is not always the case when the price for entry is hundreds of dollars. By the time you purchase the console for $299 (or $399 if you go for the PS4 Pro) then your disposable income may have already drained. However, there is still hope for those looking to game on a budget. The PlayStation Network offers dozens, if not hundreds, of games that will cost you a mere ten dollars or less. Looking through each of those can be a test of endurance and patience, so here are five of the best games you can get on your PS4 for ten bucks or less.

Thomas Was Alone
This puzzle platformer from Mike Bithell introduces Thomas, the most lovable two-dimensional square I’ve ever come across in a game. Thomas meets several other four-sided friends, all of varying shapes and sizes. You must swap between each block to complete puzzles and jump to the end of the level. On paper the idea is simple, but in execution the levels are diverse and challenging. A soothing yet compelling narration drives you to the next challenge. However, the plot becomes a heart-warming and well-written venture into the psyche of the rhombi. There is no reason not to fall in love with these characters for just $10 on PSN.

Flower
That Game Company has essentially mastered the zen game genre. This genre doesn’t rely on a sense of urgency or even deep gameplay mechanics. Instead the developer presents vague story ideas through relaxing, exploration-based gameplay. Flower, one of its biggest successes, proves to be an icon within this niche game genre. You take control of the flower petals flowing through the wind and must pollinate and bud other flowers. The game functions primarily through motion controls with surprising success. Tilting the controller to change the direction of the wind feels natural and liberating. With a price tag of just seven dollars it’s ideal for those looking for a relaxed gaming experience.

Quiplash – (The Jackbox Party 2)
This fantastic party game from JackBox Games treats multiplayer in an inventive and clever way. Instead of using controllers, you can use any device with a web browser. Logging onto JackBox’s website enables up to eight players to partake at once. In Quiplash you are presented with a couple of open ended questions at the start of the round. You are then pitted against another player who answered the same question. All players see both answers and then vote on which answer to the question they like more. Up to eight players can play the game at once, but even more can vote for whatever answer they like more. With a creative and funny group of friends this game can supply dozens of hours of gameplay. For a party game with nearly endless replayability ten dollars is a bargain.

Woah Dave!
Woah Dave! from Choice Provisions is a game that I never expected to fall in love with. It launched last year and became free for a month for PlayStation Plus users. I didn’t want a free game to go to waste so I tried it, even though I didn’t think the game would appeal to me. This pixel art-style game came out of nowhere with its fast paced gameplay. It draws heavy inspiration from the multiplayer Mario Bros. arcade cabinet. You jump from a handful of platforms, dodging monsters and explosions. The key is to get the highest score possible and micromanage soon to hatch creatures as well as other ones coming at you. The game ramps up to an addicting, tense score chasing title for only five dollars.

Awesomenauts Assemble!
Ronimo Games takes the bloated MOBA genre and crafts an original concept with Awesomenauts Assemble! Instead of the typical bird’s eye view, you see the characters in 2D side-scrolling style. Characters are varied in their skills and gameplay styles. The levels feature plenty of verticality and several ways to infiltrate the enemy’s base. However, the games draw is the fantastic cartoony art-style. Animations are smooth and flashy, and character models are over the top and interesting. It can be yours for ten bucks.
While buying a new PS4 can be quite the expense, buying great PS4 games doesn’t have to be. You can purchase all of these games at once and still pay less than a new AAA game. You’ll also get a larger variety of gameplay and story experiences.
