Watch Dogs was once one of Ubisoft’s biggest new IP’s, though it lost steam following the release of the second game, and it didn’t exactly pick the momentum back up with Watch Dogs: Legion.
But that isn’t stopping Ubisoft from doing a sequel to Watch Dogs: Legion. Oh, not a video game sequel, an audio experience sequel.
Watch Dogs Truth is a new Audible original audio series that picks the narrative up where Legion left it, and it’s also a bit of an interactive experience, because at the end of each episode you’ll make a choice based on what you just listened to.
“After Dedsec’s heroic actions in the Zero Day affair, the government publicly praised their role in saving the city. However, the reset of relations was short-lived. A new crackdown on civil freedoms is underway, as the surveillance state fights back against growing activism and protest,” the description for the series reads.
“As you listen, you’ll be guided through this story by Bagley, who can access any CTOS device, including your own Optik. At the end of each episode, you’ll be asked to make choices that will determine Dedsec’s next move. The fate of the city hangs in the balance.”
Those choices at the end of a audio series might be the closest thing we’re getting to another Watch Dogs video game for a while, but there is still a film incoming.
The movie wrapped filming earlier this year, so it could be out by the end of next, if production keeps going as fast as it has. After the partnership with New Regency was picked back up to actually make this movie, 11 years later, the film started shooting four months later. About three months after that, they were done.
It might even be a shadow drop at The Game Awards, if it keeps that same pace. Though more realistically, we’ll be heading to theatres for the Watch Dogs film likely sometime in 2025-early 2026.
