Air Force upset by Other OS removal

Sony has angered tons of people by removing the Other OS functionality from PS3 consoles. Originally, a man demanded a refund from massive online retailer Amazon because he claimed that the ability to install a second operating system was pivotal in his decision to purchase the product. Now, several lawsuits have been filed against Sony stating that they were unlawful in removing the feature, and that their personal consoles have now been rendered useless.

Add the United States Air Force to the list of disgruntled PS3 owners. According to Ars Technica, the military branch utilizes roughly 2,000 PS3s running Linux for research purposes. The consoles aren’t connected to the PlayStation Network, so there is no immediate effect on the work at hand. However, their issue is that as units inevitably die out, "it will be difficult – if not impossible – to replace them."

Do you feel that Sony’s removal of the feature for security reasons was worth it, or has the fiasco gotten them into too much hot water?
