Remedy has blown the lid off the Alan Wake 2 PS5 Pro features, which will see the critically acclaimed survival horror title receive a number of major improvements over the base PS5 version of the game.
Alan Wake 2 is taking full advantage of Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro to enhance the game experience further. Remedy’s Northlight engine team has spent a good amount of time updating the technology behind Alan Wake 2, with the main new feature for the Pro being the addition of ray tracing.
Both Quality Mode and Performance Mode are enhanced for the PS5 Pro thanks to the use of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), bringing new features that were not available in the standard version released last year. Quality Mode will see the game run at 30 FPS and now features ray tracing effects, as outlined below.
- 30fps with ray tracing
- Ray traced reflections (opaque and transparent)
- Output resolution 3840 x 2160 (4K)
- Render resolution 2176 x 1224

Meanwhile, the Performance Mode allows for an even better output resolution in comparison to the regular version of Alan Wake 2, and will see the game running at a buttery-smooth 60 FPS. In addition, the PS5 Pro also improves image stability, fog, volumetric lighting, and shadow accuracy.
- 60fps
- Using approximately the same render (image quality) settings as the base PS5 Quality mode.
- Base PS5 Performance mode version runs at lower render (image quality) settings
- Render resolution 1536 x 864
- Output resolution 3840 x 2160 (4K)
- Base PS5 version outputs 1440p.
Alan Wake 2 was released in October 2023 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and tomorrow will receive a free anniversary update that includes enhanced DualSense features and much more.
