Video game creator American McGee has provided a disappointing update on his proposed Alice Asylum, the third entry in his gothic-flavoured Alice in Wonderland franchise, confirming Electronic Arts is not interested in funding the project.
Speaking on a Patreon post, McGee revealed he put together a design bible for Alice Asylum over the past few years for EA, and asked the publishing behemoth if they would be open to selling the license to the Alice IP. Sadly, things didn’t pan out, as McGee explains below:
After several weeks of review, EA has come back with a response regarding funding and/or licensing for Alice: Asylum. On the question of funding, they have ultimately decided to pass on the project based on an internal analysis of the IP, market conditions, and details of the production proposal. On the question of licensing, they replied that Alice is an important part of EA’s overall game catalog, and selling or licensing it isn’t something they’re prepared to do right now.
He added that himself and the production team for Alice Asylum have “exhausted every option for getting a new Alice game made.” As such, all pre-production as well as the game’s Patreon are going on ice. “Alice: Asylum is at an end,” said McGee.
