Amazon now offers Prime member discount on pre-orders and new releases

In a competitive market, Amazon looks to make its online store front even more appealing compared to most physical store fronts. In this case, the targeted combatants is Best Buy. Starting today, Amazon is providing a discount on all new release and pre-order game titles.

Offering the Gamer Club Unlocked program, Best Buy discounts all new release games 20 percent and ten percent cut on used titles, so Amazon’s inclusion of the new release discount is a clear and direct move against that program. Amazon Prime has a cavalcade of included content and benefits, so adding one more benefit this substantial puts a bigger plug into the online superstore.

Best Buy still has the added benefit of cheaper pre-owned titles with the ten percent discount as part of the Gamer Club Unlocked. The program is also much cheaper, running at $30 for two years, but this program is also much more focused than Amazon Prime is. The difference between the two is still based on what a consumer would prefer between buying only video games and having a full medium of entertainment without leaving the living room.

Regardless, the consumer has the benefit here of getting new games however he or she wishes at a cheaper price point than normal; but the Amazon Prime price of $99 becomes much more reasonable with such a discount.
