Ampere Analysis, who recently revealed that consumers spend more than twice as much on video game remakes than remasters in the last two years, have published a list of 18 titles they believe are ‘ripe’ for a remaster or remake. Unsurprisingly, there’s some notable PlayStation exclusives in the mix.
Speaking in a presentation on the topic of remakes and remasters in video games, Kate Holt, a senior analyst with the company, revealed 18 titles that they believe would perform well commercially if they were to be remastered or remade completely.
Holt stated that “IP holders are sitting on a wealth of content ripe for remakes and remasters,” while noting the below list “isn’t exhaustive” but provides some notable examples of titles that could benefit from an overhaul.

Holt touched on the inclusion of 2005’s God of War, which could work as a full remake or just a remaster. She noted that the series’ hack-‘n-slash gameplay has been refined greatly during the 20 years since the game’s launch, largely thanks to 2018’s God of War and its implementation of RPG mechanics. Furthermore, research from Ampere finds that more than 20% of players in each age group under 45 consider themselves a God of War series fan, with the community still enjoying a lot of activity.
Fans praised both combat and narrative for the earlier God of War titles, and deviating too far from these could cause backlash from the original fans. However, expanding the narrative and cinematics, and updating some gameplay elements may broaden the title’s appeal.
The inclusion of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is interesting, as there have been previous murmurs that the first entry in the action-adventure franchise was going to be remade, although nothing official has ever been confirmed by Sony. Resident Evil 5 is another game that fans have been asking for, although according to noted insider Dusk Golem, Capcom is instead working on remaking Resident Evil CODE: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero.
