Speaking to Gamasutra, OTX analyst Nick Williams believes 33% of the people who will go out to buy God of War III don’t currently own a PlayStation 3. Simply put, Williams thinks God of War III will have the ability to shift a copious amount of consoles. However, Williams feels this is only possible if Sony implements a PS3 price cut that brings the system closer to the ballpark figure of the 360.
"The launch of God of War III in late 2009/early 2010 will mark a pivotal moment for Sony," stated Williams. "But in order to ensure that this game is a hardware sales driver, the cost of the base-level PS3 will need to be in the same ballpark as the Xbox 360 and Wii. According to our latest consumer tracking study, only two in three people who plan to purchase God of War III currently own a PS3."
This can go one of two ways. Either Sony will see quite the spike in holiday sales this year, or one of their flagship titles will end up under-performing. Regardless of the outcome, we’re excited to see how it plays out, and hopefully Sony cuts the price of the PS3 along the way.
