Apex Legends Pro Players Reportedly Hacked And Given Cheats During Esports Final

Apex Legends, like pretty much any other popular competitive shooter, has had its issues with cheaters over the years. If you speak to anyone in the Apex community who plays regularly, they’d likely tell you things have been the worst they’ve ever been in the last year.

While that may just be anecdotal, it seems clear there is a problem, after pro players were hacked and had cheats turned on in the middle of the finals for the Apex Legends pro esports league, the ALGS.

Over the weekend during the ALGS North American finals, pro players “Genburten” and “ImperialHal” were given cheats in the middle of the game by hackers who identify as “Destroyer2009” and “R4ndom.”

Genburten, after realizing they had been hacked and a cheat to see enemy players through walls was turned on, left the game.

After ImperialHal noticed an aimbot cheat was enabled in his game, he made his teammates aware, who immediately suggested he leave the game, so as to not be cheating. He kept playing for a short time before Respawn shut the game down, and published a statement saying the finals had been postponed.

The source of the hack is still unclear at time of writing, though the official Twitter account for Easy Anit-Cheat has issued a statement saying they are “confident that there is no RCE vulnerability within EAC being exploited.”

Prior to the statement from EAC, it was advised that players should avoid any game that uses Easy Anti-Cheat, as a safety precaution to avoid their devices being vulnerable.

While EAC is claiming the vulnerability isn’t with them, until we have a clearer idea of what happened from Respawn and EA, it may still be advisable to avoid EAC games.
