The next season for Apex Legends is less than a week away at time of writing with its arrival on August 6, 2024, and developer Respawn has just showcased a gameplay trailer for the coming season to show players everything that’s new in action.
New additions like Akimbo pistols. Starting with Season 22: Shockwave, players will be able to dual-wield either the P2020 pistol or the Mozambique shotgun pistol.
The trailer also showed new “battle sense” features, like having temporary health bars appear over-top your enemies when they are close to death.
Arguably the biggest new change though is being able to respawn into a match without your dropped banner being picked up. So long as one of your teammates is still alive, all the way into a battle royale match until the fourth ring, you’ll respawn without your teammates needing to do anything but survive.
You’ll respawn on a timer that can be cut short if your living teammate is doing damage and taking down enemies, but so long as the fourth round of a battle royale match hasn’t kicked off, you won’t be resigned to just watching your teammate, hoping they can grab your banner and make it to a respawn beacon.
We also got a better look at the new map coming in the new season, E-District, which looks like a bright neon-like urban sprawl.
One of the final big changes coming in the new season is arguably the best thing Respawn has done for onboarding new players since the game launched. Bot Royale is exactly what it sounds like – a practice mode for players to really practice what it is to be in a battle royale match and hone their skills beyond what’s possible in the firing range. Though to be fair, the changes to the range over the last few seasons have been substantial.
This just now feels like the inevitable conclusion Respawn probably should’ve gotten to a lot earlier.

Respawn is still licking its wounds from trying to implement changes to the battle pass that everyone (save for EA’s executives, probably) hated.
Those changes have been backtracked on, and now with the incoming season doing its best to represent a new “energy” for Apex Legends, it’ll be interesting to see if that resonates with players at all.
