The technical director for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has revealed that the upcoming swashbuckling adventure will expand on the diving mechanics from the original game, with more shipwrecks available for Edward Kenway to plunder to his liking.
While a Diving Bell was featured in the original version of Black Flag allowing you to explore sunken ships, players now have the ability to dive anywhere in the world, and it’s here that more shipwrecks will be ripe for discovery. This is of course on top of the existing shipwrecks that you access using the Diving Bell. Jussi Markkanen also told GameRadar that there will be “little secrets” that offer “one more dimension for the player to explore.”
We still have those diving bell locations, but in addition, you can dive anywhere in the world now. We took the feature, obviously it’s been in Assassin’s Creed since Origins, that you can dive anywhere, and we utilize that, and we built all the underwater locations; there are a lot of new shipwrecks that you can find near the shorelines.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is due to take to the high seas on July 9, 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is a full remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag rebuilt in the latest iteration of the Anvil Engine, offering a complete visual makeover while introducing new mechanics and quality-of-life improvements. One of the main changes is combat, which is now based around parrying to reduce your enemy’s defense gauge and open them up to damage and Hidden Blade kills.
The story follow Edward Kenway, a privateer who turns to a life of piracy to provide a better life for himself and wife Caroline, and sets off to the Caribbean where he ends up commanding his own ship and crew. However, his journey also brings him into contact with the Assassin Brotherhood as well as a number of historical figures including Edward ‘Blackbeard’ Thatch and Stede Bonnet.
