The next chapter in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, rumored to be titled Assassin’s Creed Origins, will launch by March 31, 2018, publisher Ubisoft announced during its earnings call overnight.

This puts the game out in the French publisher’s current financial year, which kicked off on April 1, 2017. The new Assassin’s Creed game will be joined by a host of other triple-A titles from the company, including Far Cry 5, The Crew 2, and South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Ubisoft is keeping quiet on any details right now, although we’ll no doubt hear more at E3 next month.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is reportedly set to take place in ancient Egypt and will feature a brand new protagonist, with Ubisoft planning a new trilogy of games based around the new character. Furthermore, the game is believed to remove the now-infamous towers in favor of a new mechanic, where gamers utilise an Eagle to scout the map. Despite an early Assassin’s Creed Origins screenshot seemingly confirming otherwise, the game won’t feature naval combat.
Ubisoft confirmed in 2016 that it had put the series on ice while it attempted to re-evaluate the brand, although in that time we’ve seen the spin-off series Assassin’s Creed Chronicles and a movie adaptation starring Michael Fassbender.
