Assassin's Creed Shadows News PS5 Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is First ‘Next-Gen Only’ AC Title, First To Use Ray Traced Global Illumination

Ubisoft‘s Nicolas Lopez has taken to social media to keep stoking the fires on the Assassin’s Creed Shadows hype train, describing the upcoming stealth-action title as the first “next-gen only” entry in the series.

Lopez described how not only is Assassin’s Creed Shadows powered by a new iteration of the Anvil game engine, but it’s also the first game in the franchise to implement Ray Traced Global Illumination. Indeed, this isn’t too surprising to hear considering the game is only coming to PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S; prior to this, all games were cross-generation releases.

Interestingly, the same case happened ten years ago with the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, which was the first game to release only on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.

Ubisoft revealed during a recent interview with VGC that Assassin’s Creed Shadows features a map that is roughly on par in size with Assassin’s Creed Origins. You can watch the latest gameplay footage here, which showcases both Yasuke and Naoe in action.
