Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has the worst launch sales of any major game in the series

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate recorded the worst week one sales of any major entry in the stab-happy franchise, the latest Chart-Track data has confirmed. In fact, the only game it did manage to beat was spin-off Assassin’s Creed Rogue, which was released last year on old-generation systems only.

Despite this, the latest outing in the multi-million selling stealth-action franchise managed to top the U.K. All Format Chart, although it still failed to beat Assassin’s Creed Unity, which was a bug-ridden mess upon its PlayStation 4 debut this time last year.

Syndicate’s release pushes FIFA 16 down to second place, with Guitar Hero Live, the revival of Activision’s long-running music franchise, entering the charts at no.3. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection slips to fourth place and Grand Theft Auto V sits at no.5. Things are very likely to be shaken up with the highly anticipated launch of Halo 5: Guardians this week on Xbox One however, so we’ll see just how long Assassin’s Creed Syndicate manages to hold onto the top spot.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate takes place in Victorian London in the year 1868, and focuses on siblings Jacob and Evie Frye as they battle the Templar order in the midst of the Industrial Revolution. Curiously, the game eschews the multiplayer elements of previous Assassin’s Creed titles, which have been included since 2010’s Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. Despite being primarily set in 1800s London, Syndicate will incorporate a modern-day storyline, although details on this have yet to be revealed.

New to the table in Syndicate includes the ability to switch between two characters at any point in the game. The Frye siblings each have their own special attributes; Jacob is more at home in close-quarters brawling, while Evie prefers a more stealthy approach and relies on her wit and intelligence to see her through. Syndicate also introduces a rope launcher to facilitate rooftop navigation, while weapons include a revolver, brass knuckles and a cane sword.
