Assassin’s Creed Unity is set to feature a new game mode titled Rifts, which takes the form of a time-based platforming romp (via Eurogamer).
That’s at least according to leaked footage of the game mode posted on YouTube, which reveals players will spend their time racing across stages while collecting glyphs for points.
Not only that, but it seems that a number of past characters and their respective time periods will be returning, with a stage select screen depicting fan-favorites such as Ezio Auditore da Firenze from Assassin’s Creed 2, and Edward Kenway from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
As for how it fits into the Assassin’s Creed lore, leaks suggest that Rifts is an Animus-based simulation built for acquiring errant data, with collected info being passed onto a lab of some type.
"Your goal to is collect data on the map to find the location of a trapped assassin on the map," according to the teaser.
"Data comes in three varieties. Static worth 10 points. Dynamic (read: moving around the map) for 20 points, and encrypted (you have to stand year for a few seconds for it to be picked up) for 50 points."
