Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Adopts A Unique Loot System In Place Of Odyssey’s Randomised Gear

Ubisoft’s Darby McDevitt has seemingly confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will not be following in the footsteps of Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey when it comes to gear, replacing the randomised loot system with unique pickups.

Speaking with Official PlayStation Magazine UK, McDevitt revealed that there will be unique gear up for offer in the upcoming stealth-action title, which is different to the randomised loot that you would hoover up in the previous two games. This is probably a good thing, seeing as how Origins and Odyssey were pretty heavy on the grinding.

Every piece of gear is unique in the game and [can be] upgraded extensively so that when you find a piece of gear, you’re excited and you celebrate it, and that can stay with you for quite a long time. It can be viable for quite a long time. So it’s quite a different approach than the previous games took.

McDevitt’s comments were further cemented by OPM itself, which added:

The lootbox system that featured in Origins and Odyssey appears to be gone; instead new unique weapons and gear are earned and valued, and most can be used throughout the entire game.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is due for release this holiday season on PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One.
