Ubisoft has revealed that you can change the gender of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla protagonist Eivor at any point in the game you wish. In other words, you won’t be locked into playing as a male or female for the entire game when you make your initial choice.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Allows For Instant Gender-Swap
Chatting with GamesRadar, game director Eric Baptizat revealed that the developer wanted to give players the “freedom to experiment,” and while there’s some “impact” on the story, the core narrative doesn’t change dramatically regardless of what gender your character is.
It was important to make this option available for the player. It’s something that the player can decide for the way they want to play, because it has some impact on the narrative – but it’s not two different stories. It’s the same story of the character – whatever options your character decides.
We wanted to let you have the freedom to experiment. Yes, you have to [make] a choice, but you can experiment. It’s the way it is for everything [in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla]. It could be the difficulty, to your skill tree, to gender, etcetera.
We want a player to experience all the possibilities of the game, and we find that very important.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be released for PS4, PC and Xbox One on November 17, with a PS5 and Xbox Series X also arriving at a later date.
