Atari’s Harrison thinks PSP is "vibrant platform"

Atari President and one-time Sony Worldwide Studios boss Phil Harrison has told Eurogamer he considers the PlayStation Portable a "vibrant platform", promising that more Atari titles for the handheld are in the offing.

Now thoroughly platform agnostic, "Big Phil" is also a fan of iPhone – "a phenomenon that I think is going to change the way that certain kinds of devices consume content forever" – and Nintendo DS. He was adamant, however, that Atari would not forget Sony’s slab. "We have published on PSP and I’m sure we will continue to publish on PSP."

For Harrison, online game distribution is the way forward. "There is no doubt that PSP is a very vibrant platform from a hardware perspective and I think Sony has recently made some good moves into opening up online distribution for software on PSP, so I’m looking to explore that."

By "good moves" he may have been referring to Sony’s enabling direct PSP to PlayStation Store access in October. While Harrison’s old employer has taken its sweet time getting both PS1 classics and new material onto the Store, the goods at present are certainly worth a look: Burnout: Dominator, LocoRoco 2 and Kula World to name but three.
