The #LetsPlayMay campaign is currently in full swing, with the idea to get families playing video games together. Headed by UK TV personality Joe Swash, who is giving gamers a chance to win a visit from him and 17 games, including LEGO Worlds, Rocket League and Overwatch, gamers are being encouraged to play with their families throughout May.
Alongside the campaign, a new survey also reveals some interesting statistics! Talking to 1,200 UK parents, the survey reveals that the average age of a UK gamer is 43! Other stats include:
- 8 million families play games together
- 46% of dads love beating their children on the leaderboards
- 54% of families said that gaming brought them close together with their kids
Women More Likely To Play Games Than Men
According to further research by a charity called Nesta, women are more likely to play games than men, though don't play as often. The report also highlights that gamers are often more creative and likely to be readers, painters and enjoy watching performing arts.
Here's what Joe Swash says on the subject:
“Nothing beats quality time with the family”, says father and #LetsPlayMay ambassador Joe Swash. “It’s all about taking a moment to connect with your family and friends, while doing something fun that everyone can get involved in. As a parent, you learn to find a common ground and take an active interest in something your kids enjoy as much as you. I've found video gaming was the perfect way to impress my son and complete challenges together, or against each other. What's better than having a little friendly competition between generations!”
We can definitely identify with that! Between the PSU staff, most of our children are keen gamers. In fact, some of them are better than us, but it's not about the winning right? It’s all about spending some quality time together…and winning!
Also, as part of #LetsPlayMay, selected retailers, including GAME are offering discounts on a range of titles (though some aren’t exactly kid-friendly!), including:
- Grand Theft Auto V
- WWE 2K18
- Ghost Recon Wildlands
- Rainbow Six Siege
- Assassins Creed Origins
- Call of Duty WWII
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- Overwatch Game of the Year Edition
- Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition
- Shadow of the Colossus
- LEGO Ninjago
- LEGO Worlds
- LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2
- Middle Earth Shadow of War
- Injustice 2
- Rocket League
- Destiny 2
So, get playing with your kids this May, and do check out Joe Swash on Twitter to see how he's promoting this great new initiative.
