After the PSN PayPal fiasco of yesterday, where PlayStation Network accounts received unwarranted bans thanks to a PayPal chargeback snafu, it appears that affected accounts are being restored. On the downside, customer reports say the chargebacks continue to be a problem for the time being, so users are urged to steer clear of using PayPal on PSN for now.
The issue, which seemingly only affects UK accounts, incorrectly puts PSN accounts into “debt” and triggers Sony’s auto-ban system that it has in place for when people initiate chargebacks on purchases made within the PlayStation Store.
There doesn’t appear to be any long-term harm to customers then, but the blame game continues, as Sony and PayPal, both apportion blame to each other over the issue. There’s definitely blame to be shared here, but Sony surely knew of the way PayPal operates before okaying its use on PSN.
