DICE is gearing up for the release of Battlefield 6 later this year, but it’s not done with Battlefield 2042 just yet. In fact, the studio has released a new update for the shooter, which adds a number of extra content including the Iwo Jima map, plus new weapons and vehicles. The Iwo Jima map makes a return from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield V, and includes an active volcano. You can read the full details in the Battlefield 2042 update 9.2.0 patch notes below.
Battlefield 2042 was released for the PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One in November 2021. Despite a bit of a slow start and various bugs at launch, DICE quickly turned things around with numerous post-launch updates that ironed out many issues and bringing meaningful content to the table. Its successor, Battlefield 6, is slated to launch on October 10, 2025.

New map: Iwo Jima
Iwo Jima, brand new to Battlefield 2042, is a fan favorite from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 1943, and Battlefield V. In Battlefield 2042, the map features an active volcano, so you can expect a spectacle when exploring Iwo Jima. To really immerse yourself, boat landings, bunkers, and trenches await you on the reimagined 700×200 map, offering you plenty of options to show off your tactical prowess.
Hardware
Update 9.2 adds two weapons and two archive vehicles to your arsenal.
Weapons:
KFS2000 – Assault Rifle
An impressive assault rifle with an iconic look. Thanks to its bullpup design, the KFS2000 is extremely accurate and easy to handle, making it an excellent choice for these scenarios.
Lynx – Sniper Rifle
If you participated in the Battlefield 6 Open Beta, you’ll receive the Lynx with Update 9.2. All other players will also have a chance to receive the weapon later. The Lynx is a powerful semi-automatic anti-materiel rifle with a respectable firing rate. Its very large rounds are primarily used to destroy or damage environments and vehicles.
Vehicles:
A-10 Warthog and Su-25TM Frogfoot
We also have two new fighter jets for All-Out Warfare: the A-10 Warthog and the Su-25TM Frogfoot! With their new and reworked abilities, they’ll fit perfectly into your squad. The additional abilities add more variety to their position within the squad, and both jets are configured as vehicle busters!

Changes
Weapons
- Fixed an issue on various weapons that caused the underloaded magazine to not display the correct mesh after equipping.
- Archive weapons LMGs and DFR Strife
Development Comment: UI stats for advanced ammo upgrades have been updated to better reflect their actual behavior. Most were missing “reload speed” as a negative trait, resulting in slightly worse handling. It’s important to note that this is purely a UI change, and has long been active on the weapons themselves.
- Laser and flashlight undershoots should now correctly display the on/off status in the inventory UI.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused underbarrel grenade launchers to be more accurate while moving. They should now become increasingly less accurate while moving.
Development Comment: This fix is part of a small accuracy overhaul to achieve more consistency with hip fire and sight aiming.
- Texture variations have been added to all underloaded magazine extensions, and an issue that caused the AEK-971 extended magazine to not display a visual variation in most cases has been fixed.
- The text description of various magazine extensions is now more precise and accurate.
- NTW-50:
Anti-Matariel high-power damage against light vehicles, civilian vehicles, and deployed gadgets has been slightly increased.
Development comment: We want to support the weapon’s anti-materiel identity when soldiers choose to add additional armor penetration.
- AN-94:
Fixed an issue that caused the Ghost Hybrid scope to not display a prompt when switching between magnification modes.
- GOL Magnum:
Fixed an issue that caused high-power ammo to fire at a slightly higher rate than standard ammo. It should now fire at a slightly lower rate than standard ammo.
- AK5C:
Fixed an issue that caused the AK5C’s extended magazine to unintendedly grant horizontal and vertical recoil bonuses. The extended magazine no longer grants these bonuses, making it consistent with other extended magazines.
- Fixed an issue that caused Masterkey and Underbarrel Grenade Launchers to reduce player ammo upon spawning, specifically for Masterkey for LCMG and SWS.
- Fixed a bug that caused the Arcom Tactical Muzzle Brake to obstruct players’ vision.
- Fixed a bug that caused the PP-2000’s red laser extension to appear green.
- The LS-1 laser icon in the MP-443 collection screen has been corrected.
Modes
- Outbreak:
It is no longer possible to change characters after the round has started.
- Fixed a bug that caused incorrect icons to be displayed in the Frontline score.
Gameplay flow and social elements
- Improved visibility of controller prompts in the inventory HUD on light backgrounds.
- The contributor list now includes all the passionate developers who have poured their heart and soul into the game. Check it out—and thanks for sticking with us and keeping playing! <3
Vehicles
- A collision check has been removed from the CAV Brawler skin “Intersection” to prevent it from constantly getting stuck in terrain and buildings.
- Fighter jet pilots now receive new cues, including Clear Line of Sight.
- The bomb hatches on the XFAD-4 Draugr now open and close correctly.
- A-10 Warthog and Frogfoot no longer take damage when flying upside down at low speed.
- The exit impulse on the A-10 Warthog and Frogfoot is now consistent with other vehicles.
- The A-10 and Frogfoot fighter jets now have an introductory sequence.
- Frogfoot and A-10 now require more contact with water to automatically exit the game
- Roadkills by Frogfoot are now rewarded more consistently
- Clear view in first person in A-10 and Frogfoot no longer controls the vehicle
- Su-25TM Frogfoot now correctly considers the hold/toggle zoom option
- Fixed a bug that caused the XFAD-4 Draugr to take increased damage with the Normandy skin.
- Panzerfaust and recoilless damage against EBLC rams have been increased.
- Explosion radius of the EBLC’s driver rockets from 3 to 1.5
- Fixed an issue that caused fighter jets to hover slightly in the menus.
- The camera positions when customizing fighter jets have been improved to better see what exactly is being customized.
- Inconsistent field of view on fighter jets has been fixed.
- The fighter jet has been redesigned and now uses a similar missile transformation to 2042 jets.
- All tracking weapons should now correctly track empty vehicles if they are marked.
- LittleBird no longer flies backward at high speed when hacked.
- G-effects in fighter jets have been reduced to reduce fainting in turns.
Development comment:
With the two new fighter jets, we are reducing the role of fighter aircraft in ground combat.
- F35/SU57
- Regular rocket launcher ammunition reduced from 16 to 14
- Regular rocket launcher explosion damage reduced from 150 to 100
- Afterburner of F35 and SU57 increased from 6 to 9 (Draugr unchanged) to further increase effectiveness in air combat
- XFAD-4 Draugr
- HE impact damage reduced from 15 to 13.5
- HE explosion damage reduced from 20 to 18
- JDAM bomb reload time increased from 20 to 25
- Napalm bomb reload time increased from 30 to 35
- Napalm inside (max. damage radius) reduced from 8 to 4 m
- Total explosion radius reduced from 20 to 8 m (20 m fire radius, but no initial explosion damage)
- Napalm bomb shockwave damage has been drastically reduced.
Further changes to fighter jets:
- New look!
- New audio for some weapons.
- General improvement in maneuverability, especially during climb and descent.
- The old air-to-ground missile camera was relocated under the wing for better visibility from behind the aircraft
- The cockpit cameras now have a larger field of view from the inside.
- A new secondary weapon with explosive rounds for soft targets has been added.
- Various primary cannon adjustments for the 2042 roster.
- Various changes to air-to-ground missiles including rate of fire, damage, and secondary projectile at higher damage.
- Various rocket launcher adjustments for the 2042 roster.
- Missile countermeasures now have an 18-second cooldown, while other jets retain the 12-second cooldown for flares.
- We’ve added a secondary emergency countermeasure, similar to the XFAD-4 Draugr, for these vehicles, as they are a large and slower target on the battlefield. In rare cases, pilots should be able to use it to escape, so it will have a long cooldown and a short duration. Players can choose this option instead of repairing.
- Belt speed has been reworked and now works on all weapons similarly to the recently released IFVs.
- A new ability has been added to improve the aircraft’s maneuverability, increasing almost all mobility factors. However, players will spawn with less ammo for certain weapons.
- A new ability has been added that increases the damage of all weapons at the expense of maneuverability.
