BioShock: Infinite dev confirms departure of two key staffers

Tim Gerritsen and Nate Wells, product development director and art director for Irrational Games, respectively, have departed the company.

Wells in particular had a long history with the BioShock: Infinite developer, having been employed at the studio for 13 years. He was also an integral component in shaping the art style of the original BioShock.

Gerritsen meanwhile was responsible for managing BioShock: Infinite’s content creators, and was previously a member of Human Head Studios of Prey 2 fame.

Apparently, Wells may be jumping ship to Naughty Dog, the acclaimed developer behind the highly-successful Uncharted franchise.

Confirming Wells’ departure on Twitter, Irrational Games bigwig Ken Levine revealed that BioShock 1 art director Scott Sinclair has replaced Wells, in order for Infinite “to bring it home.”

“Capable hands indeed,” said Wells, adding, “Knock it out SINC.”

BioShock: Infinite is scheduled to ship for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in February 2013. The game had previously been due to launch this fall, though was pushed back to ensure the final product is as polished as possible. Rumors suggest multiplayer may be on the cards too.
