Bioware Details Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Progression Systems For Your Character, Companions And More

After releasing a full 22 minutes of gameplay as part of a preview, Bioware has published a new blog post breaking down the various progression systems you’ll be navigating in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

The post goes through the progression systems for your player character, items, and of course your companions. A warning though, because there are elements of these details that Bioware signals to be spoilers.

It’s not so much of a spoiler that you’ll earn skill points for your character with each level, as is usually the case, and you’ll be spending those skill points in a celestial skill tree. Each class you choose will have different specializations, which impact how you play and the adventure you craft for yourself.

You’ll have three different kinds of upgrades to choose from. Passives, traits, ultimates and abilities. And of course you’ll have a whole range of gear to adorn your character with, upgrading weapons through an upgrade currency collected in your travels.

Your companions will earn two skill points per level up, which happens in large part through having them fight by your side, but also conversations with them and decisions made regarding various quests.

You can also select what weapons and gear your companions wield, giving them a leg-up as you continue through the campaign, along with yourself.

All together it seems like plenty enough to manage to give each player a unique playthrough. We’ll see how it all lands when Dragon Age: The Veilguard launches on October 31, 2024.
