Mark Darrah, a former BioWare veteran with over 20 years of experience at the studio, has offered insight as to why a Dragon Age Trilogy Remaster is probably never going to see the light of day, despite BioWare being keen in the idea.
Speaking with MrMattyPlayers, Darrah revealed he’s completely behind the idea of a Dragon Age Remaster, and revealed that the idea was pitched at one point, which included the idea to “retroactively rebrand the first three games as if they were a trilogy and call it the Champion’s Trilogy.”
However, he went on to point out that publisher EA is not big on the idea of remasters, and while Mass Effect Legendary Edition is obviously an exception, it was easier to put together than a potential Dragon Age Trilogy would be due to the technology involved.

EA has said this publicly, they’re kind of against remasters. I don’t really know why, it’s strange for a publicly-traded company to seem to be against free money, but they seem to be against it, so that’s part of it. The other problem is that Dragon Age is harder than Mass Effect to do.
One of the earliest things was, let’s do Frostbite Tools, and then let’s find a mod house that seems talented and just uplift them and pay them to do a remake of Dragon Age Origins. There were lots of pitches around it, is there a way we can bring Dragon Age Origins forward?
The studios ruin their financials within themselves. I think, to some degree, EA’s stance was, ‘Sure, go ahead and do it, but do it with the money you already have.’ We couldn’t do it with the money that we already have, because we’re doing all these other things.
Dragon Age Origins was released for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 in 2009 and has remained hugely popular among fans, often being cited as the best entry to this day. The latest instalment in the franchise, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, launched in October 2024 but performed below EA’s expectations following a long and a tumultuous development period.
