Konami’s unwrapped an all-new World War II flight combat romp for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by the name of Birds of Steel.
Developed by the chaps at Gaijin Entertainment – the esteemed studio behind 2009’s stonking IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey – Birds of Steel is pencilled in for release in 2012 and features eight campaigns to blast through in addition to an extensive multiplayer component.
Playing as either the Allies, Axis or Japanese, gamers will hop into the cockpit of several legendary WWII planes including the RAF’s Spitfire, the USAF’s P-51D Mustang and the Luftwaffe’s Messerschmidt BF-109.
The dogfighter will accommodate “massive” online multiplayer battles, alongside co-op missions and staples such as team deathmatch, co-op strike, airfield raid and tournament variations. You can even record and edit your performance to show off to your mates if your fancy it.
“For far too long, first-person shooter fans have been tied to the foot soldier point of view, but we aim to bring the seat-of-their-pants skill and daring of dogfighting and aerial combat to a wider audience,” commented Martin Schneider, General Manager, Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH.
“Birds of Steel pushes the throttle of realism by giving fans what they’ve been missing when it comes to co-operative online gameplay, incredibly realistic visuals and game dynamics, while spanning the entirety of the war’s air campaigns.”
