Game Science co-founder Yang Qi has revealed that the studio has no plans to speed up development of Black Myth: Zhong Kui – the follow-up to the hugely successful Black Myth: Wukong – using generative AI.
Qi was asked if the studio had plans to implement the technology to help work on the Black Myth: Wu Kong follow-up, to which he replied there are no plans to do so.
As a result, Game Science will instead continue working with existing methods to bring the world of Black Myth: Zhong Kui to life, which if it’s anything like Black Myth: Wu Kong, we’re in for a treat. It should be be noted that Qi wasn’t outright opposed to AI, suggesting the tech isn’t at a stage where it can prove beneficial for the company’s production timeline.
Game Science officially announced Black Myth: Zhong Kui in August 2025 with a teaser trailer, confirming the project is targeting “mainstream console platforms” as well as PC. A release date has yet to be confirmed, but at this stage the game is probably years out.
Black Myth: Wukong was released in August 2024 for PC and PS5, before arriving on Xbox Series X/S the following year. The game became one of the fastest-selling games of all time with more than 20 million units sold in its first month alone. You can read our full review here.
