Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has revealed in a brief (now deleted) video that the Borderlands 4 release date has been bumped forward to September 12, 2025. The game was originally announced for a September 23 release during Sony’s February 2025 State of Play event.
In addition to confirming a new release date for Borderlands 4, Pitchford also reminded us that we’ll get a new look at the game soon in the upcoming Borderlands 4-focussed State of Play broadcast. He’s since deleted the video citing time zone differences, but will repost it soon (he always planned to announce the news today as he confirmed as much on his official X account).

Borderlands 4 is currently in development for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S, and sees players controlling a Vault Hunter as they lead a resistance against the Timekeeper, a ruthless dictator, and his synthetic followers the Order on Kairos, while hoping to uncover “secret alien treasures.”
Pitchford and Gearbox arranged for terminally ill Borderlands fan Caleb McAlphine to be flown out to the company’s headquarters late last year to play the game.
