Caleb McAlpine, a terminally ill Borderlands fan who recently announced that Gearbox would fly him out to play an early build of Borderlands 4, has revealed that he has indeed done just that, and that it’s “amazing.”
Speaking on Reddit, McAlphine, who has been diagnosed with stage-four cancer and may not live to see the release of Borderlands 4, extended his thanks after revealing that Gearbox was able to fly him and a friend to the developer’s Frisco, Texas headquarters via first class.
We got to play what they have for Borderlands 4 so far, and it was amazing. I don’t know if I will be around when the game comes out, but I just want to say thank you to all of you for all of your love and support and for helping in making this happen. It truly was an amazing experience and it was just awesome.

Borderlands 4 was announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024, and will launch on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S at some point in 2025.
